Geochemical Characteristics of Late Proterozoic-Early Paleozoic, Variscan and Alpine Magmatic-Metallogenic Formations of Dinarides

On the basis of numerous geochemical data obtained on magmatic rocks and ores, taking into consideration their tectonic settings, authors characterize geochemically and classifie chronologically main magmatic phases and corresponding ore deposits into: Late Proterozoic-Early Palaeozoic, Variscan and Alpine magmatic-metallogenic formations: 1. Pre-Variscan cycle with Riphean-Cambrian volcano-sedimentary formations; 2. Variscan cycle: a) The Upper Ordovician to the Devonian incipient, rifting related basic and acid metavolcanics, advancing in stage during the Devonian; b) The Carboniferous collisional calcalkaline granite formation; c) Younger alkaline suites (dominantly rhyolites, then basalts, andesites, dacites) pointing to the subsequent phase of rifting. 3. Alpine cycle: a) The Permo-Triassic rifting andesite-diorite formations; b) The Jurassic-Cretaceous ophiolite formations; c) The Upper Cretaceous-Paleogene subduction basalt-rhyolite formations; d) The Paleogene collisional granite formations; e) The Oligocene-Neogene post-subduction andesite formation.
