Paleogene sediments and bauxites in Herzegovina
Bauxite as the most important mineral resource of Herzegovina is situated on contact between Upper Cretaceous (Turonian-Senonian) rudistid limestones and diversified stages of Paleogene, between Foraminiferal limestones (predominantly with Alveolinas) and younger Paleogene clastic sediments, or on contact between Upper Cretaceous limestones and Neogene clastic deposits. Investigations during last decade have great contribution in learning more about the span of continental phase, when bauxite was accumulated on paleorelief, and paleogeographic situation when there have been formed contemporary sediments of diversified lithologic features, as well as environments, and sedimentation the very same or close to conditions of sedimentations in diversified stages during Paleogene. Neogene bauxite deposits are formed under much more different circumstances.
