Terra rossa in the Kvarner area-geomorphological conditions of formation
Red soil or terra rossa is the most comon soil type in the carbonate rocks of the Kvarner Area. In most cases, terra rossa has poligenetic origin. It was formed by mixing indissolved remains of carbonate rocks, loess and weathered and eroded flysch. Climatic and glacioeustatic changes and tectonic movements during Quaternary have influenced the mineralogical composition and its recent position. Its recent dipsposition of terra rossa is a consequence of erosion. Terra rossa is found in isolated depressions in area where tectonic movements were expressed in the form of more thickness layers. An example is the northern part of the island of Cres and southern slopes of Učka. Terra rossa has form of less thickness leyers in the areas where tectonic movements were less expressed, but it covers great areas. An example is the western part of the island of Krk.
