Determination of Oscillation Velocities and Their Comparative Analysis
It is extremly difficult to attribute damage according to its origin, so it would not be possible to separate damages resulting from blasting from damages having other causes (soil settlement, intensive traffic, terrain sliding and similar). It is often the case that damage caused to structures is wrongly attributed to blasting when in fact true source of damage has been the result of such phenomenon as geological mechanics, settlement, differential settlement, uneven stressing, terrain sliding, trafic and other sources of significant vibrations. The distance and explosive quantity will imply an increase of duration and range of the seismic disturbance. For this reason, the determination of permissible quantity is extremly delicate and important, requiring special care to be taken. This document will present examples of calculations according to expressions by Medvedev, Langefors and USBM (United States Bureau of Mines) as well as their comparative analysis.
