The role of physical oceanography research in the process of marine enviromental assessment example of Cavtat
Envinromental impact assessment is a legal obligation when intervening in maritime public domain. Physical-oceanographic parameters as currents, wind generated surface waves, long period sea level oscillations, sea temperature, salinity and density are important factors for marine envinromental impact assessment. However, a well concieved idea of preparing a ŤStudy of marine environmental impact assessmentť encounters difficulties in practice. Oceanographic research in a great part of the Croatian coast and sea either do not exist or do not meet high standards. Moreover, it should be emphasized that investors often neglect the fact that adequate marine envinronmental assessment requires long time measurements, because the changes in oceanographic parameters occur in large space-time scales.
