Notes about three caves in the area of Dubrovnik (Croatia) by Arthur J. Evans
Arthur J. Evans (1851-1941), the world famous British archeologist, together with his brother Louis traveled through the parts of Croatia and Bosnia & Herzegovina during the insurrection of Christian population against Turkish government in 1875. Description of this journey he published in the book named "Through Bosnia and Herzegovina on foot during the insurrection, August and September 1875." At the end of the journey, they visited Dubrovnik and its surroundings in souther Croatia. In the chapter in wich he described it, he also mentioned and described three caves. These are Šipun in cavtat, Jezer-spilja and Betina spilja caves. Besides that Evans also recorded valuable data about their earlier investigators, users and legends originated in ancient and early Christian times.
