Geomorphological Characteristics of the Islands Ugljan and Pašman

The area of the island Ugljan and Pašman is a patr of Zadar's arhipelag submorphological region included in north-dalmatian geomorphological relief unit. From litostratigraphic aspect, this area is marked with a sequence of layers renging from Mezozoic to Cenozoic, and in a structural sense these island are the south-western part of the Ravni kotari sinkline, though their flish's depressicus are submerged and today there are channels (Zadar's, Pašman's and Middle channel). The analysis of hypsometrical relations, the analysis of the slant of the slopes and of the vertical dissection of the relief has been made. Exogenous processes played an important role in shaping today reliefs of the islands Ugljan and Pašman. The processes that occure on slopes (run-off and gilling) are of significant impotrance. They are most prominent from Kukljica to Sutomiščica on the island of Ugljan and from Tkon to Pašman on the island of Pašman. Predominance of carbonate rocks and their microtectonic cleavage greatly intensified cartification processes which cause a development of numerous exokarst, endokarst, fluviokarst. Approximately 10 000 years ago the coast of the abserved islands was formed by the postpleistocene ingresy of the sea. Morphogenetically it can be divided into the most common abrasive, then accumulative and antropogenetic parts of the coastline.
