Eocene/Oligocene Boundary (Vascus Member) in the Western part of the Tripolitania Basin, Libya
Exploration well in the western part of the Tripolitania Basin (Libya) was drilled through Eocene and Oligocene deposits. Eocene sediments are predominately clayey and sandy wackestone type limestones. They contained a poor microfossil association, typical for lagoons with high salinity andweak aeration, whwre only ostracods and rare benthic foraminifea survived. At the top of Eocene a few specimens of Nummulite sp. appearwith small benthic foraminifera. In the early Oligocene gray to white packstone prevail and contain a great amount od larger benthic foraminifera.
