Growth and development in the changing world
This book in fourteen chapters covers a wide range of important growth topics such as: national and international referral values, dynamics of growth and development, influence of environmental pressures (especially the influence of socio-economic status and socio-political changes) on morphological and physiological features and health of a population, secular trend (including regional and urban-rural differences as well as differences between socio-economic groups), evolutionary perspectives of the childhood (childhood as the presumption of reproductive successfulness). We have to be aware that although the growth is a genetically programmed processes which is itself influenced by the environment in which the individual is growing - the basic fact is that adult characteristics and dimensions, are the outcome of growth processes and that differences between individuals and between populations are essentially brought about by differences in growth. This book shows that investigation of growth and development has now truly become of importance and is assuming its maturity in helping to understand the biological variation that is seen in human populations, as well as predicting changes, and improving responses.
