The model of a logistics system for small family - run hotels offering product for bicycle tourists
The purpose of this paper is to explore the possibilities of theoretical concepts of logistics and organizational science applied to bicycle tourism, contribute to the body of knowledge of logistics systems in tourism, and suggest a logistics model, i.e. a framework, of the bicycle- tourism hotel offering. Design – By focusing on a single segment of the logistics system of a destination of cycle tourism – the hotel logistics sub-system, two logistics models are generated – one, theoretical, conceptual ; the other, an actual and in practice feasible bicycle-tourism hotel- logistics system. Methodology – The modelling methods and systems theory, supported by the survey method and online data mining, are used in developing logistics-system models. Approach – Derived from a combination of critical thinking, the existing body of knowledge and the findings resulting from the implementation of the methods identified above, the paper aims to provide a logistics perspective of a bicycle-tourism system of hotel supply. Findings – The theoretically- based bicycle-hotel logistics system is structurally more complex than the actual one. Nonetheless, small and medium-sized hotel logistics systems incorporate many positive features with regard to authentic, individual and cycling-specific product creation. While the existing system is capable of ensuring the satisfaction of bicycle tourists, it could nevertheless be optimized with the support of the identified managerial implications for efficient system management. Value – The final hotel- logistics model is considered a successful combination of theoretical and empirical components. Therefore, the modelled structure, functions and system’s processes are believed to be applicable in real market conditions. In an attempt to add value to the created model and encourage the transfer of model-generated knowledge, the modifications based on field research and stakeholder interviews are incorporated into the final suggestion.
