Full-spectrum analysis of the rotor-stator rub malfunction
Frequency analysis of the time signal based on Fourier transformation is a well known subject. While not a new invention a full-spectrum plot representations are rarely seen in the literature. The basic advantage of this frequency representation of the time signal is the spatial decomposition of the patterns of vibration. In rotor-dynamics, the full-spectrum analysis represents an essential tool that enables the symptoms of some special type of fault (especially for rub) to be a clearly detected. While the conventional half-spectrum and timebase waveform require a single input, the full-spectrum and an orbit both require signals from two orthogonal sources. This provides additional information about ellipticity of the rotor orbit and the direction of the preccessional motion. Full-spectrum analysis was successfully applied for the vibration signals taken from the real rotating machine.
