Improvement of roundness measurement with Mahr MMQ3
National laboratory for length has implemented several modifications on a commercially available roundness measurement device Mahr MMQ3. These modifications are based on digital acquisition of roundness measurement data and subsequent software evaluation of collected data. Software that was developed for this purpose incorporates all the relevant data analysis methods, such as roundness error evaluation, incomplete profile analysis, outlier detection, drift monitoring, spindle error separation with multi-step method, Gaussian and Spline filtering in Fourier space and spectral analysis. These improvements to the measurement system provide new possibilities of characterization of influences in the uncertainty budget, and both static and dynamic thermal influence on the roundness measurement system (drift) are discussed in depth.
