In the introductory part of the paper the effects of environmental conditions on the strength of adhesive bonded joints are described as reported in publications. Difficulties encountered in using adhesively bonded joints in liquids and other media with high humidity are considered. In the experimental part of the paper, the authors endeavour to explain the effects of long term exposure to an outdoor environment on the strength of single lap adhesively bonded joints of Al-alloys and high alloyed steel.
