Conceptual changes in the CRS classification and Croatian statutory technical rules
Designers, manufacturers and operators in maritime business shall always be aware of the types of components they are dealing with. Failure of the primary components of type-A (statutory components) must not happen. Failure of the primary components of type-B (class components) shall be avoided. Statutory components shall satisfy the requirements stated in the IMO conventions (SOLAS, MARPOL, Load Lines, ColReg, etc.). Class components shall comply with the IACS Unified Requirements and Procedural Requirements. The requirements for both types of components are incorporated and expressed in the Technical Rules. The aim of this paper is to present the newly established concept of the Technical Rules prepared by the Croatian Register of Shipping (CRS) The basic difference to the previous concept is that the class and the statutory technical rules are strictly separated. CRS presently develops classification rules for the CRS classed maritime units, as well as the statutory rules for the Republic of Croatia. The new concept is in force since 1st July 2009.
