An efficient meshless computational approach for analysis of shells
An efficient mixed meshless formulation based on the local Petrov-Galerkin approach is developed for the analysis of shell structures. The 3-D solid concept is adopted, and the exact shell geometry is described. The local weak forms of the 3-D equilibrium equations are derived over the prismatic local sub-domains by using the linear test functions over the thickness. Unknown field variables, including displacements, strain, and stress components, are interpolated in the in-plane directions by using the Moving Least Squares (MLS) functions, while simple polynomial functions are used for their distribution over the thickness. The transversal shear and Poisson's locking phenomena are eliminated by directly approximating the strains and transversal normal stress component, respectively.
