FE Simulation of Inhomogeneity in Tube Hydroforming

Due to its advantages in comparison with other manufacturing methods, application of tube hydroforming technology expands continuously , specially in automotive industry. Hollow parts with complex geometries and favorable stiffness to weight ratio can be produced by this technology. One of the undesired feature of tube hydroforming is inhomogeneous deformation of tube wall during deformation. Due to friction at the die/tube contact surface non uniform thickening of the tube wall takes place. Using FE simulation current paper investigates this phenomenon from different aspects: friction, inner pressure, material.
