Numerical Simulations of Heat Pumps and Heat Pump Systems
Utilization of heat pumps is rapidly increasing during last few years in Europe. That is the consequence of European dedication to increasing the share of renewable energy in final energy consumption as well. Heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems of buildings are responsible for about 40% of final energy consumption. Heat pumps can help to increase the share of renewable energy in final energy consumption and to decrease emission of carbon dioxide. As the performance of the heat pump varies with heat source and heat sink temperatures and flow capacities of heat source and sink, numerical simulation models are suitable for system design and for analysis of dynamic behavior of heat pumps and heat pump systems. Applications of empirical, theoretical and fundamental principle based models of heat pumps and heat pump systems are discussed in the paper. Features of various types of steady state and transient heat pump models are analyzed, based on examples.
