Determining the transport demand in the area of town Lepoglava and municipality Bednja

In the traffic planning the starting base is researching and then determining the transport demand. Transport demand is a passenger’s desire to use the traffic service. In order to properly quantify the traffic demand it is necessary to produce detail analyses of the whole traffic system even including the non-traffic elements like demographics and economy. To become useful the transport demand must be researched from the user’s point of view. By traveling a passenger becomes a generator of the transport service because he or she decides about the necessity for the travel which is determined by price, time, punctuality, safety and other indirect (soft) factors. Thus it is necessary to determine the ways to research the transport demand. The basic way is: determining the existing population’s mobility, analysing of the transport infrastructure and evaluation of the transport services. Based on the conducted research it is possible to construct future population’s mobility scenarios. It is also necessary to determine a modal split. That means how many users currently use cars or public transport and which mode of public transport. The railway is the most important in determining the citizens' mobility because it is supposed to be a backbone of the public transport system. It this paper the procedure of researching the transport demand and the ways for determining the future population’s mobility in the area of town of Lepoglava and municipality of Bednja will be shown.
