Noise Investigation in Aircraft Maintenance Facility
EASA regulation for aircraft maintenance stated that noise shall not distract personnel from carrying out maintenance inspection tasks. Furthermore, where it is impractical to control the noise source the maintenance personnel have to be provided with the necessary equipment to reduce excessive noise during maintenance. Noise is important working environment factor. Aircraft maintenance operations are usually intermittently noisy due to activities such as riveting, machinery operation inside hangars, engine testing or run-up on ramps. High levels of noise can cause speech masking and, if prolonged, can also cause serious health implications. One of the results can be fatigue, TTS or PTS and even adverse response of the human autonomic nervous system. This paper will deal with investigation of noise in a small aircraft maintenance facility. Hangar noise measurements in various conditions during typical maintenance day will be performed and results of measurements will be presented and discussed.
