Application of Steady State Model for Flight Path Planning of the Fighter Airplane Including Take- off and Landing

Navigational flight planning is an essential element for safe and successful flight, and it is presented by several data: flight route, flight velocity, altitude, heading and duration between each point on the route. Beside these, very important data is the amount of the fuel consumed, especially for the fighter airplane. Diversity of the flight missions, possibly significant restrictions, like available amount of fuel or flight restricted zones, along with the possibility of route modifications during the flight makes a flight planning for the fighter airplane interesting application. An access to the optimal flight regimes and flight limitations, like maximum available range or endurance, would present valuable information during the flight. For the application of flight path planning a mathematical model of aircraft’s motion in steady state flight is applied in this paper. It presents modified point-mass model of the aircraft capable to describe all possible phases of flight and here it is extended to include take-off and landing. Described flight model together with flight management system is applied for flight path planning for the typical mission of MiG-21 fighter airplane.
