Wet-chemistry synthesis of the metal and metal oxide nanoparticles
In this lecture some of the wet-chemical procedures for obtaining metal (Ag, Au) and metal oxide (Fe3O4, TiO2, WO3, V2O5 and BiVO4) nanoparticles are presented. The precipitation, hydrolysis, hydrothermal, solvothermal, microemulsion, sol-gel, ion-exchange, non-hydrolytic, γ-irradiation and other wet-chemical synthesis procedures are discussed on the numerous examples. Metal and metal oxide nanoparticles have been used in a variety of biomedical applications due to the small size, high surface area and enhanced magnetic and catalytic activity. The gold nanoparticles (GNPs) have been the most exploited in biomedicine applications and in this lecture an overview of GNPs synthesis, surface modification and functionalization procedures is given. The special focus is given to the use of GNPs as a new contrast and radiosensitization agent.
