The Problem of Application the Concept of TQM in Transition Economies
The total quality management includes a long-term policy of the firm in increasing the quality in order to satisfy the consumer completely. It is based on the organization and active participation of all members of the firm at all levels. The transfer to the TQM approach in firms cannot be realized overnight. In the developed economies the years are necessary to accept the TQM concept in firm depending on the efficacy of comunication, top management, the size of the firm and existing situation in the firm. On the other hand, the absence of enterpreneurs who could forcefully spur economic activity and the low present level of management know-how are the sore point for all transition economies. It will be difficult to take major step towards developed economies without raising the present levels of management know-how, professional training and furthering educationals skills. Is there any possibility of applying the concept of TQM in firms in that situation? An analysis of the present situation, problems and possible solutions are given using the example of the Croatian economy.
