Forests as destination attractiveness factor: case study of Dalmatia (Croatia)
The competitiveness among coastal tourist resorts in Europe is getting increasingly fiercer. This imposes the need for continuous research of the importance of destination attractiveness factors. The basic aim of conducted research was to established the relative importance of the selected attractiveness factors of Croatian (Dalmatian) resorts, and the place occupied by forest. According to the research results, besides hospitality, the most important factors are climate, beauty of landscape, the attractiveness of the beach and safety. Although forests were not classified among the most important factors, the analysis of smells and colours which tourism consumers most commonly associate with the Adriatic coast indirectly shows that the forest is a part of the total perception that tourists have of Croatia's coastal resorts.
