Regional Aspects of Unemployment in Croatia: Can We Neglect History?
The significant regional disparities in Croatian unemployment are an indicator of inequalities in regional structure and development due to deformed market principles of the comunist regime over the years. The question is whether Croatia can neglect the legacy of its previous development by introducing market economy or the history has a decisive influence on its future development. The paper tries to give some answers through four chapters. The first chapter points out the relationship between the regional approach toward the development and labour market. The second chapter deals with the necessity of considering historical perspective in regional development policy and the thirth chapter shows the regional disparities in Croatian unemployment. Taking in consideration the preceding chapters the fourth chapter assesses the application of regional approaches to the labour market policy in Croatia. In the conclusion, some essential general considerations have been summarised.
