The objective of this paper is to assess the present situation in tourism and hospitality in Croatia, both in the micro and the macro sphere, and to identify, on the basis of past experience of development trends, the basic elements of strategic management that are crucial for the further development of the hospitality industry in Croatia. The survey focuses on four areas: 1. the macro aspects of the development of tourism and hospitality; 2. the basic characteristics of the development of hospitality companies; 3. the role of strategic management in hospitality companies; 4. the elements of strategic management.
