Globalisation, sustainable development and environmental interpretation

The role of environmental interpretation has been comprehended both by s a promoter of sustainable tourism development as well as a catalyst of globalisation processes. In the introductory part explained are general effects of spatial implementation of information-interpretative means. After that isolated elements that accent the extreme importance of environment interpretation for improvement of life quality in general and for tourism. A great part of the paper elaborates the sightseeing-system and environmental interpretation based on the examples taken from the existing studies of the Institute for Tourism. It is necessary to organise the work within three basic components: road signs, forms of tourist movement, and interpretation of tourist attractions. The necessity of taking into account all three components is based on the experience that implementation of information-interpretative means doesn't have much influence if certain perquisites are not satisfied and if basic directions and forms of potential tourist movements are not known. Afterwards, interpretative means are elaborated by type based on the examples taken from practice. Stress is put on the interpretative means in the open air since it has been commonly determined that they have exceptionally strong globalisation effects. Thus, globalisation processes initiated by interpretative means in tourism represent in fact economic progress based on sustainable development, but without deeper endangering proper cultural identity.
