Refractive effects in the elastic scattering of ligh heavy ions between 5 and 10 MeV/n: the 16O+16O reaction

Elastic scattering angular distributions of the ^16O+^16O reaction have been measured at 10 bombarding energies ranging from 75 to 124 MeV. For this collision between identical bosons, yields were obtained at forward angles (theta_L=5 degree to 20 degree) using the Q3D spectrometer and at backward angles (theta_L=20 degree to 50 degree) using a kinematical coincidence setup with two position sensitive Si detectors. the chosen energies correspond to minima and maxima in the theta_cm=90 degree ^16O+^16O elastic scattering excitation function. The measured backward angular distributions reflect the weak absorption nature of the system and show clearly refractive effects due to the interference of farside partial waves.
