What new may be learned from the multielemental profile of the 5-day cummulative urine in a randomized double-blind, placebo controlled, cross-over human metabolic study? A prelude for the bioinorganic individuality
5-day cummulative mineral excretion in the urine (Na, K, Ca, Mg, Zn, Cu, and Fe) appears to be superior to the traditional daily collection for the study of nutritional implications on metabolic balance. The mineral urinary excretion in response to the change of the diet showed distinct excretory patterns for the different elements. The large variation of urinary mineral excretion between the subjects is not a random event but reflects the constant rank of the individual mineral excretion a person may have within the population group. The importance of these observations for the adequate application of the randomized double-blind placebo controlled cross-over experimental design in ,etabolic balance studies is demonstrated.
