Cesium dimer spectroscopy on helium droplets
Visible absorption spectra od cesium dimer on helium nanodroplets between 14500 and 17600 cm-1 were probed by laser induced fluorescence. A strong absorption band peaking around 16700 cm-1 is identified as Cs2 1(a) 2Su+ - 3 3Sg+ transition and a broad unstructured band near 17520 cm-1 as Cs2 1(X) 1Sg+ - 2 1Su+ transition. The assignments are discussed on the basis of ab initio potential curves calculated by Meyer and Spies. All spectra have been modeled using a narrow Franck-Condon window connected with the equilibrium distance in the ground singlet and triplet states. many observed absorption peaks of smaller intensities could be identified, although some of them violet transition rules for the cesium dimer. The intensity dependence of a band near 15000 cm-1 on the concentration of a dopant atoms suggests that cesium trimers are responsible for the corresponding transitions.
