Evoluation of Mycobacteria growth indicator tube (MGIT) for the detection of mycobacteria from clinical specimens of animals
MGIT have been compared with 4 conventional solid media (Middlebrook 7H10, Stonebrink, IUT - media with pyruvat and glycerin). The clinical specimens (in 90% lymph nodes from pigs) were decontaminated withN - acetyl - L- cystein by standard method. The mycobacteria were isolated from 83 clinical specimens. MGIT was positive from 57 (68,7%) specimens, IUT -P medium from 55 (66,3%) specimens. Middlebrook 7H10 medium from 45 (54,2%) specimens, IUT - G from 40 (48,2%) specimens and Stonebrink from 38 (45,8%) specimens. From 14 clinical specimens mycobacteria were isolated only in MGIT. From 4 clinical specimens only in IUT-P medium and from 3 clinical specimens in Middlebrook 7H10 medium. The mean time for detection in MGIT were 13 days (range 9-28), in Stonebrink medium 23 days (range 15-56), in Middlebrook 7H10 medium 24 days (range 9-63), in IUT-P medium 24 days (range 10-63) and in IUT-G medium 31 days (range 16-57). MGIT reduce time for detection in average for 10 days. Without MGIT were 14 (16,9%) clinical specimens false negative.
