The yields and grape quality of introduced red cultivars of grapevines in Istria (Croatia)
The research was carried out in the cultivars collection of Institute for agriculture and tourism in Porec. The yields and quality of must and wine were testeded on the six introduced red cultivars (Barbera, Cabernet franc, Cabernet sauvignon, Nebbiolo, Pinot noir and Sangiovese) in relation to denizen cultivar (Merlot) during three years. Cvs. Cabernet franc, Cabernet sauvignon and Pinot noir had similar yields as standard and very quality wine so should be introduced in more significant rate into the vineyards in Istria. The yields of cv. Nebbiolo were similar, but of cvs. Barbera and Sangiovese were lower than at standard, but wine had lower alcohol contents and higher titratable acidity, so they can be planted only on limited areas for increasing assortment of red wines.
