The Metropolitan Moves of the First Modernization

The word modernization carries two different meanings in this context: (1) developments and expansion of burgeois rationalism and citizenship (2) various processes of urbanisation, bureaucratization and industrialization. In the beginning of the nineteenth century there was consensus in Croatia that the project of social modernization could not be carried out or finalized without the design of a national urban center. Thus, Zagreb played the most significant role in processes of modernization.
