Dimensional stabilty of heat trated wood floorings

Heat treated wood is successfully appllied for floorings due to its better moisture resistance, increased dimensional stability, and uniform colour change to darker, brownish colours (tones). The aim of this work was to define the hygroscopic range and equilibrium moisture content at ambient conditions of heat treated wood prepared for parquet elements out of two wood species – ash and beech, heated at two temperature levels. The reduction in dimensional changes of heat treated wood compared to untreated is expressed by volumetric swelling and shrinking.
