Failures in fabrication and therapy with ceramic crowns
Dental ceramics is a constituent prosthodontic material with excellent aesthetic properties, it is stable ; not change its shape, colour or size, bio tolerant. Although of that, ceramic shows limitations which dental technician during fabrication and dentist in prosthodontic therapy has to know. A multiphase structure and brittleness make ceramic very sensitive, and the thermal processes it needs to be submitted to during fabrication of a fixed prosthodontic replacement make failures possibilities more emphatically. These failures become initial spots for development of cracks that can cause fracture of restorations in function. Therefore it is exceptionally important to carry out each phase in a dental practice and dental laboratory professionally and correctly. Selection of a certain ceramic system for a certain clinical case is more important than with other constituent materials. The importance of oral hygiene, bite force, as well as of proper maintenance of instruments and devices necessary for fabrication of ceramic replacements should also not be neglected.
