VEGETATION AND SOIL CHARACTERISTICS IN THE CONDITIONS OF THE MANAGEMENT OF POLYVALENT FOREST ECOSYSTEMS IN CENTRAL CROATIA.
In the course of three years, phytocenological and pedological research was carried out on one control test plot and five polluted ones in the Žutica forest. The phytocenological research showed significant changes in the floral composition of the earlier established association of pedunculate oak and common hornbeam (Carpino betuli-Quercetum roboris), the more humid associations of pedunculate oak, and the associations with black alder and narrow-leaf ash. The phytocenological research was also carried out on thirty-six plots, and on most of them the same trend was revealed. The pedological research showed that the highest concentration of hydrocarbons was established on Plot 2: 200-400 mg kg-1. On Plot 3, a raised concentration of oil hydrocarbons was found in the topsoil layer (an average of >200 mg kg-1). Constantly raised concentration of TPH (Plot 3) and occasionally raised one (Plot 4) reveal soil pollution in micro-depressions through pollutants from the floodwater in the winter/spring season.
