Implications of Accelerated Sea-Level Rise (ASLR) for Croatia

Activities on the establishment of national strategy and programmes are in the early stages. The first step, which is under way, should identify coastal areas on the mainland and islands to be impacted by expected sea-level rise. In addition, biophysical effects and socio-economic impacts should be identified and the plan of activities in order to prevent, reduce or cope with expected negative socio-economic impacts should be proposed. As a second step, detailed analysis of identified locations and evatulation of identified impacts should be performed. Based on the findings, a national strategy and plan of activities for the prevention, reduction and mitigation of negative biophysical effects and socio-economic impacts should be prepared and adapted by national authorities. The strategy and plan of activities should cover two main fields of concern: protection of national reseources and made assets, and criteria and guidelines for the construction of various assets in the coastal zone.
