Nutrient (N, P, Si) fluxes between marine sediments and water column in coastal and open Adriatic sea
The obtained results showed that the flux of nitrogen spices (particularly ammonia) from the sediment into water column was much higher at the stations in coastal area than in the open sea station. However, vertical gradients of concentration of nitrogen saltsin the water column are higher in the open sea area than in the coastal sea areas. It may be the consequence of fast assimilation of regenerated nutrients from the sediment at the stations in coastal areas. At the same time, the obtained results of phosphorous concentration in the sediment showed that the total phosphorus content is higher at stations in the coastal sea (Pca) areas than in the open sea (Pos). The obtained average ratio was Pca:Pos=1.54:1. The changes in concentration ratio between inorganic and organic phosphorus sediment fractions from the coastal and open sea areas did not show any reasonably regularity.
