Vibrations and Chatter in Machining: State of the Art and New Approaches
The theory of vibrations and chatter has long been known. However, new transducers and their improvements have occured, as well as new possibilities in data acquisition and computing equipment, which make methodologies and approaches to avoid vibrations more reliable and suitable for industrial application. This paper presents a review of the developments in the field of vibrations and chatter in machining, covering dynamics of machining systems, identification of machining system dynamics, effects of process conditions on machining system stability, chatter prediction and chatter detection methods. Also, the most common techniques for chatter suppression are discussed.
