GENETIC VARIATION OF FLUSHING AND WINTER LEAF RETENTION IN EUROPEAN BEECH PROVENANCE TEST IN CROATIA
Heights and flushing phenology of European beech provenances were studied in a provenance test at age 2+1 years. The test is located in Croatia (N 45°53'5, 6" : E 15°55'13, 77") and is a part of international European beech provenance test series 2007. Studied provenances originate from eight European countries, mostly from central and south-eastern Europe. Analysis of variance was conducted by SAS Mixed procedure. Variance components of provenance, replication and replication by provenance interaction effects were calculated as well as their respective statistical significance. Post hoc Tukey test was used for analysis of between provenance least square means differences. Effect of provenances was statistically significant at 5% level. Tukey test results indicated almost clear differentiation between two groups of studied provenances, with few exceptions. Provenances from Germany, Austria and Croatia were significantly different from provenances originating from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Romania, indicating northwest-southeast clinal differentiation of studied provenances.
