Analysis of Heat Transfer in Ship's Cargo Tanks
This paper deals with an analysis of the heat transfer in ships liquid cargo tanks. This analysis is based on the finite element method (FEM) which can be successfully used for heat transfer calculations. Input data consists of CAD model of the ship structure and known boundary conditions. The 70.000 tdw crude oil tanker with double bottom and double hullis taken as an example of calculation and optimization of the required heating capacity and adequate equipment according to the predicted conditions of the liquid cargo heating strategy which can achieve significant fuel and energy saving during periods of intensive liquid cargo heating before it's unloading.
