Working Characteristics of Terrain Leveler Machine in Forest Fire Road Construction and Carst Melioration
The paper deals with performance of terrain leveler Vermeer T855 in forest fire road construction. Research was caried out in the Mediterranean region on southern part of Croatia (Dalmatia) - exactly on the area of forest office Zadar. Carst area at the research site make possible the use of terrain leveler Vermmer T855. The machine can crush stones and rocks at the soil depth from 40 cm to 80 cm into smaller fraction on the route of the future forest fire road. On that way, machine work replaces very expensive transport of the gravel on the route. Research was performed during three weeks of the machine work and following parameters were recorded per day: effective time, fuel consumption, number of broken knives, length of the processed route, working depth and type of the surface. Dependencies among mentioned parameters are determined and presented as a research results. Consideration about use of terrain leveler Vermeer T855 in forest fire road construction is taken through the economical and practical point of view.
