Gear transmission in ship propulsion system
The paper provides a survey of gear transmission in marine gearboxes of propulsion system, which transmit torque and reduce the rotational speed of the main, propelling engine to the rotational speed of the ship s propeller. Gear transmission in marine gearboxes of propulsion system is divided into standard gear transmission and multiple mesh gear transmission. Multiple mesh gear transmission in marine gearboxes of propulsion system is divided into ordinary multiple mesh gear transmission, planetary and combined multiple mesh gear transmissions. Due to the merger or division of mechanical energy with these transmission then appears the problem of equal distribution of torque (load) onto individual gear couples. An equal torque distribution is achieved by a flexible shaft, flexible couplings, hydraulic cylinder etc. All the models of gear transmission are designed on the basis of the relevant literature in the computer program Autodesk® Inventor® 2010 Professional.
