Bosnia and Herzegovina
In Bosnia and Herzegovina sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa Mill.) occupies an area of about 36, 000 hectares, it is widely spread in different ecosystems, in three main areas: Northwestern Bosnia (Una-Sana canton), Northeastern Bosnia (the valley of the Drina river, near the towns of Srebrenica and Bratunac) and Hrezegovina (valley formed by the Drina and Rama rivers). In this article there are data about historical background, distribution, economical and technical data as well as data about sweet chestnut uses and tradition in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
