Milk thistle (Sylibum marianum) is originally a native of the Mediterranean region, North Africa and Middle East. As a weed it infects crops, pasture, wastelands, irrigation banks and ruderal areas throughout the world, and it is consideres a troublesome weed in many countries. However, the flower produce a large amounts of nectar and pollen which are attractive to honey bees. A comercial milk thistle product for pharmaceutical purposes in many countries and therefore could be a valuable forage for honey bees.
