The impact of the streching road grade on the costs of the forest roads onstruction
CAB Accession Number: 20093211869 During the selection of the technical element for the forest truck roads, the designers have at their disposal a variety of possible values from minimal technical elements to optimal technical elements. The minimal technical elements are especially suitable on steep mountain terrains where they enable the embedding of the road route into the terrain. Such forest roads require minimal amount of financial means for construction. However, from the other side, the exploitation of this road is difficult due to both numerous horizontal and vertical curves with minimal radiuses and long longitudinal slopes of the road grade. The upper limit within the range of forest truck roads technical elements is the selection of as suitable as possible technical elements regardless of the terrain features. For more suitable technical elements for forest truck roads higher costs are needed due to more intensive soil works. The location of the road grade regarding natural terrain has major impact on the scope of the soil works and the costs of forest truck roads. Exploitation with a more restricted road grade imposes the necessity for the analysis of the impact of the road grade stretching to the forest truck roads construction costs.
