Determination of sorption/desorption isotherms of chlorophenolic, triazine and organophosphorus compounds in natural and synthetic sorbents
The paper decribes methods used to investigate the sorption behaviour of chlorophenols, triazine herbicides and atrazine degradation products, organophosphorus pesticides, and dialkylphosphorus anions in surface abd subsurface soil samples, marine sediments, natural humic acid, mineral sorbents, and synthetic sorbents containing organic matter of known structure. Sorption/desorption isotherms are determined using a batch equilibration procedure. After achieving sorption equilibrium sorbates are accumulated from aqueous phase either by C18 reversed-phase adsorption or by solvent extraction. Gas chromatography is used for quantitative analysis. The equilibrium concentrations of triazine herbicides and atrazine degradation products in aqueous phase are also determined by spectrophotometry directly in the sorption equilibrium solution. The sorption results are evaluated by calculating differences in sorbate concentrations in the aqueous phase between samples (osrbate solution + sorbent) and control solutions (sorbate solution, without sorbent) after equilibration. The results of sorption experiments are evaluated in terms of Freundlich isotherm.
