Frequency comb cooling, trapping and molecular formtion

It is not a new idea to think of the use of the femtosecond laser in the cooling and trapping process of atoms. However, since the pulse train has a broad frequency spectrum of the equidistant comb lines, it has the capacity to supply the frequencies of comb lines that almost simultaneously may serve in the photoassociation and molecular stabilization processes. Our previous work may serve in pointing to the way of realizing several tasks at once, or in several steps. We shall start with the rubidium vapor which is laser cooled in a usual way (MOT), and then will use appropriately shaped optical frequency comb to perform photoassociation. The details of the proposed experiments will be discussed at the conference.
