Prikaz knjige - QDT (Quintessence of Dental Technology) 2009
Quintessence of Dental Technology is published every year and it contains richly illustrated articles that describe achievements in dental prosthetics. It usually focuses on dental technology with step-by-step presentations of different clinical cases. Therefore, the articles are equally attractive for both clinicians and technicians, especially those interested in up-to- date dental technology procedures and materials that are prerequisites for successful oral rehabilitation. This year’s edition includes articles on frontal crowns made by a combined use of zirconium material as base and casting in layers with ceramic material, fabrication of adhesive bridgework combined with modification of the surface of the zirconium base, as well as production of an “alveolar” working model with moveable abutments that enables soft tissue to stay on the plaster model in order to combine the morphology of the prosthetic work with the shape of the soft tissues. The article on unavoidable implant dentistry deals with the guided implant placement in an edentulous jaw with the use of a stent, temporary prosthesis construction, impression techniques and final, esthetic rehabilitation by means of crowns and bridges made of zirconia. There is an article on an innovative intraoral measuring device that can determine the size and proportion of teeth in relation to the improper line of the marginal gingiva. The article on esthetic restoration of frontal teeth with significant lack of the alveolar crest shows procedure of implant placement and CAD/CAM fabrication of zirconia suprastructure with defect augmentation. Next article shows experimental treatment of advances erosion of upper front teeth that was firstly performed with composite onlays, and then ceramic veneers with an excellent esthetic effect. The title with the article “The magic of nature” is a discussion on the tooth color and its nuances, isotropy and anisotropy, the influence on the color, influence of light on the color, opacity and translucency… The author gives practical advice from many aspects on how to achieve adaptation of the color of prosthetic work. It is an interesting, although short, description with many pictures that show how to mimic irregularities in the color when using ceramic material. An article on functional, morphological and esthetic adaptation of prosthetic work on frontal teeth is an acceptable, simple, teaching text substantiated with excellent illustrations. When answering how to find an esthetic solution for frontal, endodontically treated teeth with color change, the authors give a solution with detailed description of all the phases in non-metal constructions production. At the end is the article titled “California smile” that shows some clinical cases with descriptions how the desired esthetical outcome – California smile – was achieved. As every yearbook, this year’s is interesting reading for every professional that can see many illustrations what does the top-class prosthetic work look like. Croatian dental technicians can learn some of the “tricks” that they can use in their work. This yearbook should inspire every clinician to tend to esthetically “stronger” constructions so that she/he and her/his dental technician achieve better esthetical results.
