The Process-Based Face of Organizations

Process orientation is gaining the momentum. Process-based way of thinking offers numerous opportunities in current global and competitive environment. Organizations which understand logic of organizing around business processes will survive and will be competent in future. However, process-based organizations are still very rare and insufficiently understood. So, in the chapter the nature and the key concepts of this process-based face of organizations are explained. The area of business process management is clearly defined and main process concepts are introduced. The process-based organizational structure and process management practice are thoroughly described. Advantages and benefits of using process-based face are emphasized as well as its critical success factors. Furthermore, the Generic Process Transformation Model and process maturity concept are presented to explain the steps in transition towards this new face of organization. Finally, major implementation challenges are specified and the need to institutionalize BPM office inside organizations is clearly emphasized.
