Education for Peace A Conflict Resolution Initiative for Post-War Bosnia
The text presents summary report on the findings of the research project on history and literature textbooks in Bosnia and Herzegovina performed between 1997 and 1999. The project was carried out on the sample of primary and secondary school (grammar school) textbooks covering a total of 48 textbooks: 24 history and 24 literature textbooks. Although Bosnia and Herzegovina is an integral country it turned out that three different kinds of textbooks were being used within its territory: Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian. Concerning the content of the textbooks, all demonstrated a basic resemblance manifest in their being rooted in their own ethnic groups (in terms of national history and national literature) as the core to organizing content and didactic structure. Consequently, it is possible to conclude that history as well as literature textbooks divide rather than connect students in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
